I am currently working on a paper regarding obgyn visits in the 1980s compared to today in 2010. What was the recommended age for a young lady or women in the 1980s to have their first obgyn visit who were not sexually active and what was the first recommended obgyn visit for those that were sexually active. Now that we are in the 2010 era, has the age for an obgyn visit changed, if it has in what aspect, what age does a non sexually active person need to visit the obgyn and for a sexually active person when is it recommended she see the obgyn.
I look forward to hearing from you and if I come up with anyother questions I will forward them to you. Thank you for taking the time to assist me.

In the 1980s and now, we like to see all young women before they become sexually active to make sure they are well informed about contraception and STD protection. The American College of Ob/Gyn recommends we see girls between 13-15 for a get acquainted visit. Once a young woman has become sexually active, we ideally would see her annually. What has changed since the 1980s is the timing of pap smears and recommendations for full pelvic exams.
